Short answer
To assign default dimensions automatically in Intuit Enterprise Suite, go to Settings ⚙ > Lists > Dimensions > Dimension assignment and choose Products and Services or Fixed Assets. AI suggestions carry a Sparkle icon. Edit them if needed, then Confirm or Dismiss each one, or select several items and use Assign Dimensions. Confirmed defaults apply to future transactions. Intuit's Fall 2026 release notes announce retroactive dimension assignment, but no help article gives steps yet.
Before you start
- You're on Intuit Enterprise Suite and your dimensions and values already exist under Settings ⚙ > Dimensions.
- You know which dimension value each product, service or fixed asset should carry by default.
- Dimension Assignment suggests values only for products and services, and fixed assets, that don't have dimensions assigned yet.
- Intuit's article doesn't say which roles can use Dimension Assignment. Only Admins and Standard-All users can create dimensions.
If you haven't built your dimension list yet, start with How to set up dimensions in Intuit Enterprise Suite.
Step 1: Open Dimension Assignment
- 1Go to Settings ⚙.
- 2Go to Lists, then select Dimensions.
- 3Select Dimension assignment.
- 4Use the Select a type dropdown to choose Products and Services or Fixed Assets.
Step 2: Review the AI suggestions
- 1Check the list of items without dimension values. Suggested values are marked with a Sparkle ✨ icon.
- 2Select the Sparkle icon to see the reason for the suggestion.
- 3Edit or change a suggested value if it's wrong. Once you edit it, the Sparkle icon is removed from that item.
- 4In the Actions column, select Confirm or Dismiss for each suggestion.
- 5To approve several values at once, check the box next to each item and select Approve.
- 6If you're not ready to decide on an item, use the Saved for later option and come back to it.
Once you confirm a value, IES applies the same dimension to similar future transactions. Intuit's article, updated 4 August 2026, doesn't say it changes transactions you've already saved.
Step 3: Assign dimensions in bulk
- 1In the Dimension Assignment tool, check the box for each item you want to update.
- 2Select Assign Dimensions.
- 3Choose a dimension from the Select a dimension ▼ dropdown, then a value from the Select a value ▼ dropdown.
- 4Select Save.
- 5Review the changes and select Confirm selected items.
Step 4: Use suggestions while you enter a transaction
- 1Go to All apps, then Sales & Get Paid, then Invoices.
- 2Open a transaction.
- 3Start typing in a dimension field. AI-suggested values appear.
- 4Select a suggested value to apply it to the line item.
Step 5: Change dimensions on past transactions (single-entity IES only)
Intuit's Dimension Assignment article describes defaults for future transactions. Intuit's Spreadsheet Sync article gives one documented way to update dimension values on existing transactions, for Intuit Enterprise Suite customers with a single entity. Only admins can open Spreadsheet Sync.
- 1Go to Reports, then Spreadsheet sync, and select Run report in Excel.
- 2Open Excel, sign in to Spreadsheet Sync and select your company account.
- 3Select Records, then Create or edit records. Choose the company from the Select company ▼ dropdown and a template from the Select a record type ▼ dropdown.
- 4Select Edit QuickBooks records, then choose filters such as Create date, Item type and Item status.
- 5Select Select dimension columns to choose which dimension fields go in the sheet, and apply filters such as transaction type or date range.
- 6Select Get template, update the dimension values in the sheet, then select Sync.
- Supported transactions: journal entries, invoices and bills, credit memos, vendor credits, expenses and sales receipts, estimates, and purchase orders.
- It only works with dimensions and values that already exist in IES. New values typed into the sheet aren't recognized.
- The sync limit is 1,000 records.
Intuit's Fall 2026 release notes (26 October 2026) announce retroactive dimension assignment, which applies default dimensions to past transactions when your structure changes. The Dimension Assignment help article (updated 4 August 2026) still describes defaults for future transactions only, and Intuit hasn't published steps for the new feature. Intuit's Reclassify or move multiple transactions article puts that tool under Settings ⚙ > Dimensions > Dimension assignment, but it covers changing the account, class or location on recorded transactions. It doesn't mention dimension values.
If something doesn't look right
- An item isn't in the list: Dimension Assignment lists only items without dimension values.
- The Sparkle icon disappeared: it's removed when you edit a suggested value.
- Old transactions didn't change after you confirmed a default: confirmed values apply to future transactions.
- Spreadsheet Sync ignores a value you typed: it only recognizes dimensions and values that already exist in IES. Create the value under Settings ⚙ > Dimensions first.
- You have several entities and want to edit dimensions in Spreadsheet Sync: Intuit's article says it supports dimensions for Intuit Enterprise Suite customers with single entities.
Where Intuit Enterprise Suite leaves the work to you
- Defaults cover products and services, and fixed assets. Intuit's article doesn't mention defaults by customer, vendor or account.
- Every AI suggestion still needs someone to confirm, dismiss or edit it.
- Confirmed defaults apply to future transactions. Retroactive dimension assignment is announced, but there's no help article for it yet.
- Spreadsheet Sync's dimension support is for single-entity companies. None of the articles cited here gives multi-entity companies a bulk way to change dimension values on past transactions.
How Logistify helps
Logistify doesn't set or assign dimensions in Intuit Enterprise Suite; your team keeps control of defaults in Dimension Assignment. Its Sales Order Service enters customer orders that arrive by email, PDF, Excel, EDI and other channels into IES as sales orders, and a person reviews exceptions.
